Marvel 1 2 3
$3.00 Plan
|
The Problem:
Marvel comics has consistently raised the price of their comic
books to the point where some single issues sell for as much as
$3.50
|
The Issue:
Kids, students, new readers, and average income fans cannot afford
to enjoy the books.
1. Spending $3.00 on a comic book is almost ridiculous
to a child or student with little or no money.
2. Without catching these new readers, the comic industry will
not sustain itself. |
|
|
The Complaint:
Recent revenue from comic book movie adaptations has not helped
the issue.
1. Marvels Comics has made much money by licensing the movie industry
the core titles such as Spiderman, X-Men, the Hulk, Punisher, Daredevil,
Blade, Elektra, and most recently Fantastic Four. (These are all
recent films!)
2. These movies have generated so much revenue that Marvel Comics
should be able to stabilize the price of its comic books.
3. To conclude, Marvel Comics must be raising its prices for either
one of two reasons:
a. Greed
b. Mismanagement |
|
Current Prices:
The core titles recently went from $2.25 to $2.50 as of this writing.
Any special comics or miniseries are $2.99.
Books with high salary creators are $3.50. |
|
Fan Proposal:
Only naivety would ask for prices to be lowered.
Instead the following threat has been proposed:
"I, _________, the comic book fan, agree not
to purchase any standard Marvel Comic book with a price tag of over
$3.01. I will boycott any books over this price even if I desire
to purchase them, in order to make a statement against price increases."
Note on Exceptions: This applies only to standard,
regular size comic books. Double sized issues, special issues, extravagant
covers, and collected editions are expected to be higher priced
and do not apply during this boycott.
|
|
Justification:
1. Prices on comic books will continue to rise
unless a line is drawn here.
2. Hollywood movie revenue, from blockbuster films such as Spiderman
2, should be able to counterbalance any 'inflation' excuse that
the industry might cite as a reason for price increases.
|
|
Ultimately what is being
asked of Marvel Comics
1. Please respect the readers of Marvel Comics.
2. Reward the fans for being such a dedicated group.
3. Do not exploit the fans for money. (Exploit the non-comic book
readers, the average moviegoers, if you must.)
4. Understand that most comic readers are not wealthy and that new
readers are often simply children.
|
|
Note:
This proposal was not made by enemies, but by adoring fans who love
the characters and the company more then anything else in the world.
Thanks for your time!
